I CRAVE sleeping on my stomach, beer, bleu cheese dressing, sushi and not having to go to the bathroom every 15 minutes. ;) Do I normally crave these things, no. It is simply because the medical community has stated that for various reasons they are unsafe so I avoid them. Does this mean that after I give birth I am headed to the local sushi bar? Probably not. Once they have been removed from my taboo list I am sure the craving for them will also be removed. I think it is such with dieting or lifestyle changes; if something is taboo or off limits it becomes the thing that you most want. It's why I think most people fail at weight loss, we are told that a piece of chocolate cake is off limits when a piece in moderation keeps one from feeling deprived (in my non-dietician opinion) =)Traceyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18175100411548318402noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1449641905298601952.post-67287025056902124572011-07-21T18:05:24.774-07:002011-07-21T18:05:24.774-07:00Lori, I just want to thank you again for dropping ...Lori, I just want to thank you again for dropping by my blog and trying to knock some sense into that odious twit. I agree, ultimately, it is about not feeling "adequate enough"/successful enough. I so appreciate your gentle approach and reminder to be gentle with myself and set realistic expectations. Also, to ENJOY the journey, not feel deprived by it (I appreciate that!)! I think I need not to watch things like THE BIGGEST LOSER, including the "critical transformation"... He or she had not been able to lose weight while on a vegan diet. I don't have any more context than that, but what horrified me is that this person had become totally obsessed with eating "clean" to the point where only plant based foods were acceptable.

Now, I have nothing against plant based foods. They're some of the best in the world. Nor do I have anything against people who choose to be vegetarians, but in my opinion, this is a case of clean eating crossing the line into full-blown orthorexia.NewMehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11172571318565002724noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1449641905298601952.post-41357623455276986892011-07-20T05:54:02.295-07:002011-07-20T05:54:02.295-07:00What did you think about Jane Brody's recent a...What did you think about Jane Brody's recent article in the New York Times? http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/19/health/19brody.html?ref=health
Seems to me it reinforces "good food, bad food" theories (and in more than 140 characters).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1449641905298601952.post-25829656962182724302011-07-20T02:03:22.390-07:002011-07-20T02:03:22.390-07:00Wonderful post (as usual)!! So true about how we set ourselves up for the "what the heck effect" by expecting too much, too quickly...Gaining a lot of weight upon release from hospital for anorexia (much of it water...but (needed) fat as well..threw me into sheer panic as I realized, when finally allowing myself to see the numbers on the scale, that I had surpassed my previous "setpoint" and zone of comfort...Trying to "normalize" has been a struggle which is decidedly NOT helped by paying too much attention to tweets..investigating diets which promote the idea of good calories/bad calories and the removal of entire food categories...When you tend to have a "black or white" view of what is "acceptable"...be it weight, foods, length/intensity of exercise ..etc (as many of us with restrictive tendencies do)..the categorical "slotting" of foods into good or evil categories becomes attractive, almost conforting, because we do need to "think" about our OWN individual needs and desires as much...Thank you for helping us to realize that we are all individuals with very divergent tastes, desires and needs in nourishment...It is very personal and one size (or diet)does not fit all...Donnanoreply@blogger.com
