I was a dedicated low carb disciple for a long time, and after researching a bit on Pub Med I discovered to my shock and horror that carbohydrates are actually...GOOD! He seems to be skilled at writing - yet does not include data that would undermine his theory. I too have been working with clients for 25 years - incluidng generous amount of carbohydrates while acheiving excellent outcomes! <br />Richard J. Essentially, it seemed that the good doctor was going back to the "eat less, move more" mantra so dear to the hearts of the uninformed masses. Whenever someone confidently says that ELMM is simple and effective, I respond by saying that Dr. Arya Sharma, one of the world's foremost bariatric doctor calls this "the Nightmare on ELMM Street". ELMM is an extremely dangerous simplification of an extremely complex issue.NewMehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11172571318565002724noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1449641905298601952.post-38769995067808474602012-07-10T16:47:38.674-07:002012-07-10T16:47:38.674-07:00Oh, Anonymous, you are so wise to have picked up o...Oh, Anonymous, you are so wise to have picked up on that disturbing little comment! Yes, you are right to be concerned by that sentence, but let me clarify it before it leads you down an unhealthy path. First, there are so many problems with the question and the response! (I was so busy sighing that someone in the media finally set the record straight about carbs that I totally glossed over that very triggering piece.) Even those that are "obese" by BMI criteria should absolutely NOT try to eat as little as possible, simply for the sake of losing weight. That would be ignorant and unhealthy. However, assuming someone is overeating, supporting of a weight outside of what has been healthy (on many fronts) for that individual, than reducing intake and finding that point that maintains a healthy body and mind is appropriate. See the titration example in this post: http://dropitandeat.blogspot.com/2010/08/size-matters-but-not-how-you-think.html<br /><br />Hope this clears things up!HikerRDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15170145903147301280noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1449641905298601952.post-38545613794154991552012-07-10T15:12:54.942-07:002012-07-10T15:12:54.942-07:00Hi,

However it concerned me to see the following in response to the question "What would you tell someone who wants to lose weight?" - "Eat as little as you can get away with, and try to exercise more." As someone who struggles with eating enough the statement of eating as little as possible reinforces my distorted thinking. Is at little as possible defined as as little as you can while still standing and ignoring symptoms of poor nutrition, or eat as little as you can while still being a healthy nourished person? I'd love to hear your thoughts...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1449641905298601952.post-66188006931975902712012-07-10T11:33:42.422-07:002012-07-10T11:33:42.422-07:00Amen!Amen!Susan Komisar Hausmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15943117957218039800noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1449641905298601952.post-37252606063977543442012-07-10T08:15:56.881-07:002012-07-10T08:15:56.881-07:00Finally, a more sensible piece on this subject in ...Finally, a more sensible piece on this subject in today's NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/10/health/nutrition/q-and-a-are-high-protein-low-carb-diets-effective.html?_r=1&ref=todayspaperHikerRDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15170145903147301280noreply@blogger.com
