I am "'Thursday's Patient's" Mom. I have only known that my adult child has had an eating disorder for about three years. That is heart breaking for a mother. I feel I should be able to fix this and make it go away. It is very difficult to know what to say to be supportive, and still be respectful, to your adult child. I read Lori's blogs all the time and they are very helpful in understanding the complexities of this disease. I am very proud of my child for the valiant fight against this eating disorder. I will continue to be aware and there through the battle. I especially found number 9 helpful - knowing what questions to ask and how to ask them. I also found number 5 very helpful. Sometimes, I notice that my friend is slipping but I don't know how to call her out on it. I don't want to seem like a nag or like I'm mothering her. So, I often wait until I can just slip it into the conversation. Now that I know that calling her out is the right thing to do, I will be sure to do it when I first notice the change instead of waiting. Thanks for the great tips!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
